Nick Adlington - Psychotherapy & Counselling in Brentford, West London

Qualifications & Registrations

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist; a member of UKAGP (United Kingdom Association of Gestalt Practitioners); a member of IAAGT (International Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy).

I hold an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy, an MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology, a Diploma in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts, and a Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Practice.

Experience & Expertise

As a gestalt psychotherapist my practice is grounded in the interplay of mind/body/emotions and the development of personal awareness. I have specific training and experience in working with those who are suffering from the impact of traumatic life events. I build safety and support as a ground for therapeutic work, whilst at the same time bringing experimentation and creativity to the encounter between client and therapist, encouraging you to explore new ways of being in the world. I can also share practical approaches from fields such as, meditation, mindfulness and self-compassion, to help you manage specific experiences such as anxiety and low self-esteem.

I have worked closely over a number of years with those suffering from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, grief, and the impact of traumatic life experiences. I am particularly attuned to suffering related to thoughts and feelings of not belonging and being lost or alone in the world.

As well as private practice, I have also worked for the NHS IAPT service, in GP practices, and with not-for-profit counselling organisations.

Wider Life Experience & Interests

I am a qualified teacher and prior to training as a psychotherapist worked in hospital education for 10 years. I have also worked for 8 years in international development, both in the UK and abroad.

I engage in ongoing professional development: having regular supervision; taking-up further training in issues related to trauma, neuroscience, relationality; engaging in formalised discourse on issues related to ethnicity, identity, and historical legacies. This allows me to keep up-to-date and offer a reflective and ethical practice.

I am an accredited and registered mediator, working with families and colleagues in dispute to heal their rifts. I run workshops and dialogue circles focussed on building awareness and communication skills.

Outside of work, I walk, cycle, dance, sing, write and play music, and enjoy occasional bursts of travel and adventure.
